Reader Response: Indian Killer

Indian Killer was a very intriguing tale. From the very beginning it grabs the readers attention. Instantly there is a mysterious air about the book that continues on throughout the novel. I found the book a very quick and easy read. I was always very interested in what the future of the book would hold and found it difficult to put down. I found the book to be very similar to a Dan Brown book, it has many different perceptions and points of view and is very mysterious and in the end all the characters come together for a ending that is fulfilling and thought provoking. Dan Brown's books are all absolutely amazing, especially the Robert Langdon books, and I would highly suggest them to anyone who liked Indian Killer. The only major difference between these two books is Brown's ability to bring together an ending. I was disappointed in the ending of Indian Killer. The identity of the killer was never revealed. I was anticipating their identity the whole book and then it was not revealed and I was very sad. Also I didn't think that it brought together all the stories together very well either in the end. I think there could have been a must better resolution. Aside from these short comings I thought the book was very interesting, it made the imagination of the reader run wild for most of the book. Overall a very good book, worth reading.

  1. Everyone keeps noting that the killer was never revealed in the book and how disappointing that was. I had to go back and read the last chapters to see if this was true because I assumed it was john all along hence the book reveals him as the main character. I took the scene on the skyscraper as the announcement of the serial murderer. it never crossed my mind that it was someone else. Though I did speak to other class mates and each had a different idea of who this Indian killer could be. I wish the book would have been clearer as well, and I do think the ending was a bit unoriginal. Almost as though the author had writers block and this was the best he could do.

  2. All through this book, I thought John was the Indian Killer, and I still do believe that. I am having a hard time thinking of who else it might be. For some reason, I just have this feeling that Alexie wants us to think the killer is John without coming out and telling us. I guess in some aspects, it is kinda cool that he didn't straight up tell us who the killer is because it leaves us wondering. Leaving something like this up for interpretation bugs some people, but I like not knowing exactly who the killer was. I have not read any Dan Brown books, but I think I might pick one up know, seeing how much I enjoyed this novel. Overall, I agree with you, it was a good read and I would recommend it to others.

  3. I completely agree with Eric and Tiffanee. I assumed, throughout the entire novel, that John was the Indian Killer. It had never crossed my mind that it could be someone else. I was so confused when I got to class on Monday and people were discussing it as if it was someone else, but now looking back on it Alexie never does come out and say that John is the killer. So now I too am quite frustrated, not only because I do not know who the killer is but also because I guess I read the book wrong!!

  4. I have read a few Marry Higgins Clark books and she writes her stories from multiple prospectives, like Indian Killer, so I was expecting all the different story lines to come together at the end also. That was a little disappointing but I still enjoyed the book. When a story line would end before it had a conclusion it made me want to hurry up and find it again. The author was an excellent story teller. He caused my imagination to go wild. It was just like watching a movie only better. He paints a vivid picture but also keeps you guessing on every page.

  5. I liked the ending. I think leaving you to question who the killer was gave it a sence of realism. I dont think this book needed a happy ending with everything all closed up. I enjoyed the fact that it left me to think about it after I had finished it.

  7. Yeah, I agree it is a frustrating ending.
I think Alexie's purpose of making the reader really think ends up with frustration of not having an answer. I agree that he is an "excellent storyteller" I actually had trouble putting the book down and couldn't wait to find out the killer. Only to find out, you don't know for sure. I disagree with the point that he could have made the ending better though, as frustrating as it is. One the bright side, I think the ending definately makes it more debatable, more open to discussion, makes you think all the more. That is probably Alexie's whole reason for leaving it open, just to get under everyone's skin. Ha ha
